Counting the days

So many images. It's hard to know where to start. I like this. I've got some nice ones from Catherine too. of the neon. I'll put some up soon. haha. it's all looking great. I hope I can do the work justice with MY photos. (lessons from Jade are helping, but not quick enough). I hope to have a slide show of lots of images running over the weekend. Mabye in the Long Now Cafe.. so if you happen to have lots (as Jade and Catherine do.. (Jade has given me hers already) it would be good to get them on CD or flash drive to add to the mix.

IMPORTANT ! Kate Shone has come up with a nice idea for a photographic installation - which means everyone needs to get shot .. in front of Slim's work, wearing Slim's hat. Getz and I will take the snaps. Kate has gathered the picture frames (in an extraordinary display of inspired op shopping.) YOU need to be photographed. Please make a point of grabbing me or getz to take the shot or you will be left out.. and then it just won't be the same.

JUST AS IMPORTANT! I need words. anything up to 200 words I guess. by the weekend please!.

MORE TO COME. I have nearly finished the programme of whats on. who's what and where. I should have that to you all by tomorrow. so look out for that! hope you can make it to all the relevant things.

tafe at work. rough plans for the LONG NOW weekend

Well Catherine's crew made a good start last week. despite the drizzle :-) looking good!
Hopefully everyone else is beavering away getting their stuff ready for the 10th of November.. I think Getzel is hoping to have most work in by then.. (so .. we won't have a big day on the 3rd as planned, we'll do it on the 10th instead. (the 3rd is Cup weekend, and Marcus and Dore are having a 'do' at their place) .

oh . by the way. we are now listed at the Visit Victoria site: http://www.visitvictoria.com.au/displayobject.cfm/objectid.8B89D58F-3878-4FA7-80EB43AE50837A18/vvt.vhtml

and getting about 50 hits a day on the nowanowa.com website.

and I think i have received a petanque team registration form - yay. sounds like a tournament.

alllsoooo.. we have started mailing out invitations (not doing a huge mailout.. mainly to funding bodies, mayors, councillors that sorta thing).

The plan is that there will be a launch of the LONG NOW weekend (and 'the movie') on the Friday night (6ish), then have a pay for yourself dinner at Mingling Waters aftewards (7ish). (quite a few people are camping Fri-Sun). Just a social affair.. but hopefully with a few starters.

Open for Inspection opens to the public at 9ish on Saturday.. with speeches/cheers at about 10.30. (sorry, I can't remember the exact times..and cant be bothered getting up to find them.. but will be more definite in the next email)... just wanted to give you the gist in advance.

And don't forget, you CAN VOTE in nowa nowa on saturday. (polling booth is usually at the Nowa Nowa Nudes hall )

:-)

Work begins in earnest

Bob provides evidence of his credentials.

Another nice day at the house before things get serious.
And yes - things have started to move along nicely. More and more people dropping in to find out what's going on. The toothbrush count is slowly climbing. Donations arriving from all corners of EG.
Oh and while I'm thinking of it.. we are hoping to change the date of the next artist day. I think we are booked for November 3 - but hope to change it to November 10 . Hopefully that won't change people's progress. I think we hope to be fully installed by Nov 10 - to allow time for final tweaking. and general panic.

oh. lots more pix to upload, but will pace myself. Jade and Rhiannon have been and, sadly, gone. They were amazing. and Jade took loads of great pix. will add them over the next few days.

tks everyone. it really is quite fun.

ripped van getzel

I have recently awoken from blog hibernation , hi again to all I see Ange has been carrying on the mantra ,keeping all up to date with the doings and going ons. I see the open for inspection sign is up and apparently Bob ( not bothering to read the small print ) has done exactly that, seemingly quite proud on whats on offer, though Josie is doing the best to avert her eyes and Kates kids aren't. So thanks Bob for the show of support and exercising your auctioneers technique we cant wait for the bidding to start.
It has also become apparent (view last two photos) that some smarty pants has been mucking with the skies around Nowa Nowa thats all very noice and all and lovely for the tourist, But it is a little confusing for the local inbibers of substances of dubious origin who reckon Nowa Nowa has never seemed more normal ,this is not an attitude we like to promote in town and call on the perpertrator to cease immidiately or face the consequences of community spirit and harmony.
For those of us who understand that communities work best with a feck the rest of you attitude ,keep the good work up, I'm going to press the publish button before Ange has a chance to edit or delete ,I love you all and will keep you posted on marital bliss or lack of.

Another fine day at THE house

Another fine day at THE house. Indeed. Yes. (Ruth) this was the little surprise.(the sign) but you need to read the fine print to see how special it really is.
It's getting lots of interest. We should have the house sold by November I think.
Actually it was a verrry fine day. warm and sunny and chatty. and it seems. everyone making good progress.

Just about everyone turned up - though some had left by the time I took this pic obviously. (sorry) And very nice to get a surprise visit by Tricia Allen and Norm Borg who may just get their act together and do something for the house too.

Marcus and Dore continue their campaign for used toothbrushes. We have constructed a rather natty toothbrush collection bin and located it at the house (putting Marcus's ice-cream container to shame). Photo to follow.

(ps. M&D. I think I have about 20 family toothbrushes . My sister Glenda was sure she was going to get at least 300 via her CentreLink call to action, but results have been disappointing so far :-)

reminder to all. They need 1500 !!! so all donations gratefully received. I am proposing to chuck all mine over Kate's fence as I drive through Swan Reach. (where Marcus and Dore will collect them from).

Getzel and I have been doing stuff. It's all looking pretty good. (well, not much different on the inside.. but the outside looks good. ) like a real display home. almost.

On sunday I cleaned out the shed , just in case we get all inspired to put some work in there too. TAFE students might be interested already.
Oh and Ruth F dropped in on her way to the Wairewa Tip (must have seen our last post (filming Kate at the tip) and been inspired to action. Apparently Ruth hit the jackpot :-)
see you all on Saturday at 'the house' 11am.

Well, Malcolm the Movie Maker has been and gone. And I can't believe I didn't take any photos. (It's WHAT I do!) So if anyone DID take any pix over the last few days... can they please email them to me? andrealane@bigpond.com
Oh I did remember to take ONE photo. This is Hannah filming Kate Shone at the Wairewa Tip while Malcolm watches.

Had a great turnout at the Health Centre on Thursday night - lotsa locals and lotsa TAFE students. (although I did get yelled at the next day for traipsing mud through the Centre.. :-(

sorry!!

And had a great dinner at Mingling Waters with lots of artists, and the NNCDG, and the Mayor on Friday - very nice (and still forgot to take any photos!)
We then let Malcolm do his thing.

oh.. if you still haven't quite pieced the whole project together.. the theme of the project is gleaning and recycling and how Nowa Nowa does it with style. Malcolm was here to record the stories of the most extreme recyclers in NN. Kate is one of them. but of course there were also lots of blokes with amazing collections and contraptions. The (very short!) movie premieres on the 24th of November @ Nowa Nowa. (as part of the Long Now Weekend).

artists day at nowa nowa

ok Getzel seems to be suffering from writers block .. or is it exhaustion from concrete pouring? or from artistic direction?
anway.. i do have some pix that I thought I'd share while he recuperates :-) (he's fine really)

Well... I reckon we had a great day on Saturday.. nearly everyone was there.. 'cept Catherine Larkins (on family leave, looking after Bob) and Jenny Toye (on real holidays) and Jade Pegler (http://www.jadepegler.net/) who remains our mystery artist, due to appear in September (dates tbc).
I think we have a pretty good idea of what we're all doing.. $s to be confirmed, and contracts written asap. ( to continue our semblance of good management).

Here are some pix to prove it's all happening. Getzel might add some words if I can prise him off the couch.
[artists conferring: Gwen Poore, Neil Smith, Ruth Fitzclarence, Helen Sheil, Getzel (Yelen).
mmmm. I dont seem to be able to add multiple pix to the single post... will add a couple more separately..

before

It seems like Getzel has been too busy to blog just lately... but am sure he'll be back online soon.
In the meantime (and especially for long distance artists) here are some 'before' pix.
(ie the house as is) http://www.nowanowa.com/o4i/THE%20HOUSE.PPT

At the moment, its a big file - a powerpoint monstrosity.. but if you work in a govt office with broadband.. it wont take too long (it's around half a mb). I'll try reducing the file size tomorrow.

so if you need to get more of a feel for the project.. check out http://www.nowanowa.com/o4i/THE%20HOUSE.PPT and make your plans accordingly!

hope to see everyone at the house on Saturday (28th July) 11am for a chat!

2 garys in the house

A short update ,there are now two Garys in the house. I will help you to distinguish between the 2 of us, one is creative, humble, generous instinctive, the other is up himself, cheap, smelly has the dress sense of the hulk and lives in Nowa Nowa.

We are happy to have Gary Bjekvxwplkmzxzavdjkfy on board and join in his creative processes, Gary first came to our attention in Bruthen where we viewed his hot rod telescope which was highly unfunctional but sculpturally engaging and wanting to find out how it worked who we could point it at and how quickly it dematerialized them . For the project he hopes to have mastered the re materialized version and we all look forward to finally meeting his wife and two children.

The house itself is moving forward with a front door almost in and a path leading to the door under con struction . So if he would kindly get off it we can put it in place .

twas nice chattering

Getzel

This is Getzel In Training on the blog machine, you can call me Git for short. It is my very first blog I am told even though I thought I was the original Blogger back when I was nine years old , turns out I may just have been a flogger and no one wished to advertise on something that may have been on view for less than 10 seconds with barely enough space for the logo.
Anyway enough of an introduction to my shortcomings!! and lets talk arty things .

We in Nowa Nowa have introduced a marvellous concept to the world of art ... we are donating to the cause, a house ( which, on completion of the signing of documents, handing over of the cheque, and upon entering our newly acquired townhouse and discovered ... the front door has loose hinges and falls away on entering , this is unfortunate but easily repaired, just put new longer screws in , also unfortunately we discover the frame of the door is a little eaten away by those eating machines commonly known as termites , we decided we should terminate their longterm relationship with this building and call in the terminator. We did. They died along with the nesting kookaburras , dodo , theylacine and dare I say it but grandma poss aint gonna be performing anymore magic). I hope this aint tooo disturbing to my fellow artist but it does give you all an idea of the tremendous carnage we had to perpetrate in the name of art and finding gullible out-of-work artists to fix it all up again.

Now that I have opened myself up & been straight (even though this is the censored version) , with my mates in the artworld, I will attempt to use this site as an update of people progress and publicity (in short KKK).

My first arteeest to enter the open for inspection house was Marcus Foley . Marcus is an incredible jeweller/silversmith who when he actually puts an effort in and uses the correct amount of rouge, eyeliner and collagen polishes up quite respectably and becomes , if I may say , quite desirable. This in No way is the reason I asked him to join the project and I will slap anyone who questions my motions. Marcus is going to be a tremendous asset for the project , his skills , knowledge , appreciation of design and use of raw materials will enhance any project that he is involved with along with his generosity ... and great dance moves ... we welcome you aboard.

I believe this is enough for my first blog and will keep you all posted on who is next "to enter the house" .
